Stuffed Loaf Recipe

This recipe has been around for more than 30 years! The chipped beef is found in jars in the canned meat section of the grocery store. You can substitute a mild flavored artisan loaf of round bread for the sheepherder's bread. This recipe was very popular with the Long Beach Ski Club many years ago!

1
5-ounce jar chipped beef, shredded (Armour)
1
8-ounce package cream cheese, softened
2
cups sour cream
1/2
cup onion, finely chopped
1
clove garlic, minced finely
2
loaves sheepherders’ bread, unsliced

Mix all ingredients except bread together.  For faster heating, heat this mixture in a saucepan until hot.  Cut the top off of one of the loaves of bread and hollow out the inside.  Fill the loaf with the chipped beef mixture and replace the top.  Wrap in aluminum foil and heat at 300° F. for 1 hour (less if you preheated the mixture).  Cut remaining bread into chunks, approximately 1” x 1”.  Serve warm with bread.
