Spanish Sangria

This sangria needs to be started in the morning if you are going to serve it for cocktail hour.

1/2
cup freshly squeezed lime juice
1/2
cup freshly squeezed orange juice
1/2-2/3
cup sugar
1
bottle (750 ml) dry red wine
2
tablespoons orange liqueur, such as triple sec or Grand Marnier
1
small orange, thinly sliced
1
lime, thinly sliced
1
cup club soda or mineral water

In a pitcher stir together the lime and orange juices and sugar until the sugar dissolves.  Add the wine, orange liqueur, and sliced orange and lime.  Chill for several hours.  Add the club soda just before serving.

Serve over ice cubes in a large bowl-shaped wineglass or in a tall clear glass, with a straw.
