Homemade Flour Tortillas

Freshly baked flour tortillas are a real treat!

4
cups flour
1 1/2
teaspoons salt
1 1/2
teaspoons baking powder
4
tablespoons shortening or lard
1 1/2
cups warm water

In mixing bowl combine dry ingredients.  Cut in shortening.  Add warm water, a small amount at a time to form dough.  Knead dough until smooth and elastic.  Cover and let stand 10 to 15 minutes.  Divide dough into 12 egg-sized balls, and flatten with hands.  On floured surface, roll each ball into a 6 inch circle, about 1/8 inch thick.  Cook on a hot ungreased griddle about 2 minutes on each side, until lightly browned.  Cover to keep warm and soft until served.
