Linda’s Garlic Bread

You can use various kinds of bread in this recipe, but you want to use a long loaf or roll, such as a baguette, a long loaf of sourdough bread, a hoagie roll, a long loaf of Italian bread, etc.  If you have a small family, you can prepare the recipe and then put half of the bread in a Ziploc bag and store it in the refrigerator and bake it the next day.

1 loaf bread (see notes above)
1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder of 1 finely minced large clove of fresh garlic

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  Put the butter in a glass measuring cup and melt in the microwave.  Remove from the microwave and stir in the garlic powder.

Slice the bread in half lengthwise as you would do for a hoagie sandwich.  Drizzle half of the butter mixture over each half and spread evenly over the bread, covering all cut areas.  Place each half on a cookie sheet, butter side up and put in the hot oven.  Bake until browned, approximately 10 to 15 minutes.  Remove from oven and put the bread on a cutting board.  Cut the bread into 1 inch wide pieces and serve hot.

You could sprinkle the buttered bread with Italian herbs and/or Parmesan cheese before baking if desired.  You can broil the bread instead of baking it, but you are much more likely to burn it if you broil it.
