Scalloped Potatoes with Ham

cups potatoes, peeled, 1/4" slice and cooked

cup onions, finely diced

teaspoon white pepper

teaspoon ground nutmeg

cups 3/8' dice ham
1/2
cup fresh bread crumbs, buttered
 

 

Preheat oven to 350°.  Sauté onions in 1 tablespoon of butter.  Set aside.  Melt remaining 4 tablespoons of butter.  Add flour, stirring until flour is completely dissolved.  Add milk, salt, nutmeg, white pepper.  Stir continuously until all ingredients are blended and mixture begins to thicken.  Combine onions, potatoes and ham with the thickened sauce, stirring gently to blend.  Place mixture into a greased 2 quart casserole dish and top with buttered bread crumbs.  Place casserole dish on a cookie sheet or baking pan to prevent spillage during baking.  Bake in oven until hot and bubbling around edges, approximately 40 to 50 minutes.
