Grits

cup grits, not instant
4 1/2
cups water
1
teaspoon salt

 

 

Bring water to a boil in a large saucepan.  Stir in the grits and salt.  Cover and cook, stirring occasionally, over low heat until thickened, about 20 minutes.

 

Or microwave 1 cup grits, 3 cups water and 1 teaspoon salt in a covered casserole on high until the water is absorbed, about 11 minutes, stirring after 7 minutes.  Let stand, covered, for 5 minutes.
