Margot Duncan’s Sauerkraut

gallon sauerkraut, rinsed and drained

pound bacon, cooked slightly, cut up
5
bay leaves
1/4
cup juniper berries
3
teaspoons caraway seeds
1
Golden Delicious or Granny Smith apple, peeled and cut up
1
onion, cut in half, sliced thin
2
teaspoons beef bouillon granules

 

           

 

Mix all ingredients.  Cover with water to level of top of sauerkraut.  Cook, covered on top of stove, or in 350 degree oven for 8 to 9 hours.  Discard bay leaves before serving.
